The Romero Trail Cache near the AZ Catalina State Park, Tucson

Message from Cache Owner, 1/6/2002
Check out all the Geocaching.com logs for year 2001 for this cache.

Important Notice
Several groups/people indicated that the GPS coordinates take them a little up/beyond the
cache location. Please remember the image below. The cache is located behind the large pile of rocks near the catus.
Since the cache is near a Romero Trail, it is placed at the base of a small tree
that is behind the large rock in the photo below. The two cans are in a large black plastic trash bag.

Information about Catalina State Park
Vistors heading to southern AZ can enjoy this park, at the base of Mt.Lemmon and the Santa Catalina Mountains.
At Catalina, there is something from everyone, from camping under the desert skies, to hiking through canyons
and streams, to picnicking and bird watching. And NOW, there is a Romero Trail Cache for you to find.

Direction to the Catalina State Park from Interstate 10
From I10 West or East, exit Ina Road. Take Ina Road east to Oracle Road (about 7-9 miles),
Go North on Oracle Road (left) and drive about 3-4 miles to the Catalina State Park
(You will see BROWN state parks signs along Oracle Road). Turn in the state park entrance
and drive about 1/4 miles to park ranger shack. If you DO NOT have an AZ state park
annual pass, then a daily entrance fee for vehicles is required (about $6.00).

Details about the Romero Trail Cache
When you received approval at the ranger shack to enter the park, drive to the trailhead parking area.
There are several trails that begin at this point. Follow the signs to the Romero Trail. Hike along
the Romero Trail for about 0.98 miles to the cache. Difficult is 1, Terrain rating is 2
The cache is located at
North 32o25.366
West 110o 53.478
Items in the Romero Trail Cache are an inexpensive camera, pencil and pad (log book), spare AA
batteries for your GPS, a portable flashlight. On about 4/1/01, I added a second "coffee" can with goodies for
the kids. Items like some hotwheels, plastic sunglasses, silly puddy, and some stick ons.

The trail starts here (N 32o25.522, W 110o54.415)

About 0.70 miles up the trail you will past this sign, you are getting hot
