Sabino Canyon Cache Logs for Year 2001

December 30, 2001 by RootinTootin [Email this user] (11 found)

This was the fourth cache that we found while visiting family in the area. We again sent the kids ahead and they, being new to using a GPS, went right by the cache. After I tracked them down, we got back to the cache which was right next the trail. We left a Thunder Canyon Brewery token (which we found at another cache) and took the bead braclets. This is a beautiful park, one we intend to hike many times in the future. I noticed that a new cache was added much higher on the trail above the canyon. I hope we can track it down next time. Thanks

This was our first successful find. The cache is pretty easy but we took awhile because we're still learning to use the GPS. Didin'e take any thing and the cache is very full.

Hi WJM, Decided to hunt down your cache. Nice and easy. I was heading out to sabino to cache near pine creek crossing and decided to check yours out. I enjoyed it much! Take care, o_dog

Great hike up from visitor's center. I brought my family - Kim, Aaron, and Seth, and friends Marie, Melissa, Alisha, and Zachary on their first cache. I think they are hooked. We took a handful of stuff and left a handful of stuff. On the way out we saw the resident roadrunner at the visitor center. Stood on the circle of the tramway eyeballing everyone and puffing up real big. We got pictures and will post when they develop. Thanks, Jeremy

In Tucson visiting family and to attend a wedding in Sierra Vista on Saturday. Good opportunity to do a little GeoCaching! Being two 2 U of A alumni, we're familiar with the area and wanted to go for this one. Beautiful Thanksgiving Day and lots of other people enjoying the area. Cache was easy to find and the container stuffed. Planned to take nothing and signed the book, but then noticed the travel bug. Had to take the travel bug. Somewhere around Austin, Texas will be its next destination. Thanks for yet another good excuse to go to Sabino Canyon! cluelessandclark, Austin TX'

I brought my wife along to find this cache. She is starting to take a liking to this. The cache was an easy find. We took the fan and left the Travel Bug we found in Nevada. The can was very full. I took one picture of my wife (Maria) going through the cache.

Our first find and it was great! Wonderful hike in one of my favourite places around Tucson. The weather was perfect and the entrance was free because of Veteran's Day weekend. The cache is in good condition and packed full of stuff. We took the bubble stuff so we can watch our dog's chase the bubbles, and we left a fan. We also took a picture of us both. There are 10 or 11 pictures left. Thanks! Sparky and Groover

Our third cache today and the first cache we ever found with a flashlight. The coordinates were rigth on the money and what a beautiful evening with the lights of Tucson to the south! We picked up the travel bug, and the Moose Key ring and left a Christmas Coffee mug and a bottle of bubbles. Tried to take a photo but the flash on the cache camera wouldn't charge up. What a beautiful area! -Team Family Affair Scott & Mary Rapid City, South Dakota

11:45am - Nice hike in to the cache. No problems finding it, other than waiting for other hikers to clear the area. Took picture #12 and the X-10 contoller and left the Mini-Wyle E Traveller and a pair of magnified tweezers. Thanks Winnfort Myles for another fun cache! Team Wyle E - Larry & Connie.

This was out first find. Picked it because we live on the east side of Tucson and have always liked Sabino Canyon. It was a great day for a hike, and had no real problem finding the cache. The GPS cord. was dead on. Took a pack of shredded money and left a new gold colored dollar. Seemed appropriate. Look forward to finding more of the Southern Arizona finds, either the Mt. Lemmon ones, or the Catalina State Park ones next. Scott and Ann

A very easy cache. I took my sister and my 75 year old dad and we found this one blindfolded with one hand tied behind my back. Traded nothing; signed the logbook and took a picture of me and my sister. Then spent some time at Sabino Dam.

Set out early to beat the heat and found the animals were out doing the same. Ran across a desert tortoise eating prickly pear fruit. The cache was in a good hiding spot so we had to look carefully to find it. Was somewhat worried about finding a scorpion inside the bag but no one was home ;-) Cache was full, took a mini screwdriver and left some stickers and a shiny new dollar coin. We took our picture and signed the log book. We look forward to finding some more caches and someday making one of our own. Pete and Beth Desert tortoise eating some breakfast

We found this cache a little before sunset. It was nice to have a quick one to find after work on a Tuesday night. We took our pictures with the camera, and the marlboro sport timer and left a rubber ducky. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on whoever put the AOL and Compuserve CD's in there. :( Team Titan II

Visited Tucson today and was able to visit a couple caches in the area. It was a nice way to get to see different places. We found the cache at about 2pm and it was right around 100 degrees. We enjoyed the hike and the canyon is a wonderful place. The camera has lots of picture left. We took the stress ball amd left a screwdriver and a zipper pull. Thanks for the fun. - Team Cache-Quest

Nice cache for young children -- not too far and right now, the cache includes some toys. I left European Southern Observatory pen and took nothing.

We had a great time looking for this cache! This was our first find, beautiful views and lots of wild animals! Deer, rabbits, lizards, birds...but very warm! We left a stress ball and took a beanie baby.

We got an early start to beat the heat for a nice hike in Sabino, and decided to look for the cache enroute. It wasn't difficult to find, and was in good condition. Wanted to leave a CD, but the cache was crammed full. So took nothing. Just a thought--don't know how well the container is going to stand up to monsoon winds and rains. Might consider something more durable. Thanks for a fun search in a beautiful place.

This was a nice easy one! Thanks Myles Reality for stashing it! My GPS took me right to the sight, no problems. We took an eraser out of the cache and left a remote palm pad, (a remote control for the lights and things in your house). We got it out of a cache in Missouri. We also left a pair of earrings. It was a beautiful sunset, a great time to be hiking in Sabino!

First ones to find it! We live about 2 miles from the cache so we just hopped over there this morning for a nice little hike. Easy to spot... found it in about 1 minute of searching about. The toughest thing about the hike was all of the litle gnats flying about. Weather claims it to be 95..but it felt like 100+! The camera's a great idea! We took a pic of ourselves. Also took a car and left a shoe polisher and a pen. Thanks for putting it out there! Bill&Cristie
