Romero Trail Cache Logs for Year 2001

December 27, 2001 by RootinTootin [Email this user] (11 found)

Last cache of the day with Family and GeekCoach. Sent the Kids on ahead with the GPS, (we couldn't keep up anyway). They still hadn't found it by the time we got the top. We entered the more recent coordinates and found it pretty quick. They blue wal-mart sack makes it stick out. Thanks for the hike and beautiful sunset.

What a neat hike. Out caching with RootinTootin and some other family from AZ. Arrived (out of breath) and searched for about 20 minutes. We were using the coordinates from the 8/12 visit log. I read through the logs again on site and saw the updated coordinates in the 11/7 visit log and so we tried those. Right on. My brother-in-law found the cache within a few minutes. We took a fish eraser. We also took a bullet (not a spent shell) because we thought it shouldn't be in a cache. We left a bottle opener key chain and a small toy. (Edited log on 1/1/2)

It was a picture perfect day and we saw a deer next to the trailhead. Found the cache and it is in good shape. We didn't take anything except the view from on top. The trail was steep toward the end so my heart thanks you for a nice workout. Pete, Beth and Scarlett

Headed up this trail after going to the Nature cache. This is a very beautiful trail, But is a steady 1.3 mile one way UP HILL climb. We were passed up by 2 groups of people in their 20's One couple were running up the trail!!!! made us feel very out of shape. Were happy to reach the cache and rest. Took the Mini flashlight and left a mini knife and a stick on mirror. Had a great time Thanks. Team CBx2 Cody & Cheryl No dogs allowed on this trail.

FANTASTIC VIEWS! This was a wonderful senic hike into the mountains and we both really enjoyed the views. I'm sure we looked very hot and tired to the other hikers though! :D Met Scott and Ann on the trail, just after meeting them at the Catalina Nature Trail cache. The cache is in good condition and the container is full of stuff. We left a hotwheels race car and took a screwdriver thingy. Great day and the entrance was (is) free this weekend because of Veterans Day. Sparky and Groover

This was a great cache to find. We really loved the hike. This was our second find in Catalina State Park today and was a great day to be there since they were not charging admission. Met fellow cachers Sparky and Groover at both this cache and Catalina Nature trail. The GPS said 9 feet left when we were at the cache. Took a hot wheels pickup and left a flashlight. Mr. Myles, I didn't have any problems finding the Romero Trail Cache. I notice you have had quite a few visits to your site. I found everything in place at this date of find. This was my first cache that I have looked for so I left a spent .45 cal. bullet just like the Lone Range used to do. And two pieces of Starburst candy for the kids. I removed some candy wraper or old package that was in the coffee can, along with one of your Myles Realty 2001 cards. Thank you! Ray Coville or (rayzar) Tucson, AZ 85737

This is the best Arizona Cache we have visited yet! Thanks for sharing a great place with the rest of us Geocachers. We left only our log and introduced another hiker to geocaching (she just happend to come hiking along while we were shooting photos). The 1.3 mile hike was very pretty and enjoyable. The cache coordinates seemed to be a bit off- perhaps better coordinates would be N32 25.366 W 110 53.473 as we had to search for quite a while before finally finding the cache. Thanks again for the great view! -Team Family Affair Rapid City, South Dakota

10:00am - Great Hike! The desert landscape is different than around Phoenix. Here, the landscape is lush with a greater variety of plants. MUCH more prickly pear cactus! We started with some problems finding the cache. We were using the posted coordinates at the top of the cache web page. WHY ARE THEY NOT CORRECTED?!?! Couldn't find the cache there, and found the correct coordinates posted in a log entry dated Aug 12th. Luckily, I had printed the entire cache web page, and not just the printed version (which doesn't include logs). Once we got to the correct location, no problems finding the cache. It's in good shape. We didn't take anything, but left a little multi-pocket screw driver and a Wile E Coyote pocketpal. Thanks Winnfort Myles for bringing us to a beautiful hiking spot! Team Wyle E - Larry & Connie.

We originally went to the published co-ordinates listed on the top of the page and searched around for about 20 minutes. Then we called a relative at home to have them check the log for clues, and realized that the cache had been moved. Then we went to the new cache and found it in about 10 minutes. We took out one of the Hot Wheels cars that my girlfriend liked and put in a Lego Mars Spaceship, a certificate for something tasty, and signed the log. It was a good hike and the weather was beautiful, I look forward to finding somemore hidden treasures.

Bummer! We found another nearby cache (Catalina Nature Trail) but got to this site, and 3 of us searched for half an hour before it started getting too hot. The trail here is SOOOO busy! There must have been 50 people pass by over the span of an hour we spent on the trail. Kids were pretty dissappointed...we'll have to try some easier caches next time around...

Message from Cache Owner: A new cache with items of exchange has been placed, since the original cache was stolen. Enjoy it. Please make sure the cache is well hidden/covered when you replace it. It's not that far off the main trail. Winnfort Myles, Oro Valley, AZ

I hadn’t planned on visiting the Romero Trail Cache again, but since I was in the neighborhood, I thought I’d check to see if it was back. It was, but only as 2 business cards and 2 pens in a Ziploc bag. I would have left my GPS receiver, but it wouldn’t fit in the bag, so I dropped off a couple of orienteering maps instead. Attempted to find this one after we found the Nature Trail Cache. This one is more challenging, but not too difficult to get to. We searched for about an hour near the posted coordinates. No luck.

Notice to All; I visited the cache location today to determine why the last two visitors had problems locating it. And to my surprise, someone or something removed the entire cache. I guess someone got really greedy. It is a shame. For now you will only see a ziplock bag with a pen and business cards. I plan to replace the cache on next Sunday, 8/19/01. The updated coordinates are N 32.25.366 and W 110.53.478. Cache Owner.

Since previous hunters of the Romero Trail Cache reported that it was lower on the trail than the coordinates indicated, I spent the obligatory hour seaching all around the area represented by the photo of the cactus and rock pile (about 200 feet from the coordinates). Nothing! I'll have to return with the rest of my team later. Stosch's Stashers

After tearing that rock pile apart I couldn't find it. I'm pretty sure I was right on top of it but I had to head back. Next time I will find it for sure. Well two out of three for my first day as a new geocacher. I am happy with that. Besides I got a heck of a workout. By the way I would rank the difficulty a 4 on the chubby, out-of-shape scale. Thanks

No problem with the help of past notes. The cache does need new coordinates posted. Great view. Took sun glasses and left batteries. Thanks

Just like the last few people, our GPS put us much further up the hill. We almost gave up. But we found it, the cache is in good shape. We took a picture of ourselves and some silly puddy. We added a pair of sunglasses and a dollar. It was a beautiful view of the Oro Valley!

May 6, 2001 by Team Marlinspike [Email this user] (21 found)

Found it. Like the former seekers the GPS put us up the hill too far. After much searching and some frustration we decided to head down. On a hunch I peered around this bunch of rocks just off trail and Viola! There it was. We snapped a picture and exchanged some items then headed to the Nature Trail cache. The bounty of this cache is plentiful!

Hi! With great difficulty and a lot of persistance by Jack S. we found it. The GPS wanted us to be a little further up the hill and the last 3 numbers off the can for each coordinate were different than I had entered off the web site. Took photos and one pair of hot pink with dogs sunglasses for my granddaughter. Thank you Myles Reality for the Cache. We continued on to Romero pools for lunch. A Perfect day! Mike and Mary Ellen

Went looking during the thunderstorm and was lucky enough to see a double rainbow. The lightning was putting on a great show in the distance and the wildlife was just getting moving so it was well worth the hike in the rain.

I'm the cache owner. My wife and I visited it today, 4/1/01. Added a second coffee can with items for the kids. Items like some hotwheels, silly puddy, some stick ons and plastic sunglasses. See the website for more details. Winnfort; Oro Valley, AZ

It's still there folks. I just checked and it hasn't moved an inch since my previous visit. It's just placed in a unlikely to be seen spot...

Well, the second cache hunt of the day ended in disappointment. We searched a good hour for this one. It was tough getting a good read on the coordinates as the rocky mountainous terrain was playing tricks with my GPS. We met a fellow geocacher looking for the same cache, and he was looking in the same exact spots we were! Unfortunately, we strongly feel that the cache no longer exists! Need confirmation on this please! Absolutely breathtaking view from up there though! Thanks. Team Verville

This was disappointing, but had to happen sometime; couldn't find the cache. I met up with the other team who spent an hour looking and I would guess that the cache was too close to the trail and someone took it. Hopefully this is a rare occurrence. It was a beautiful hike just the same!

This cache is a disguised coffee can (one of the big ones), so there's not much space in it. There were no 'swap' items there, but I left a couple small things...
